DIY Suncatcher
Are your kids excited to see their old friends at school? These colorful, fruit-inspired DIY Suncatchers are a great little gift you and your kids can make together and give out to classmates and teachers.
Supplies:
- Colorful permanent markers
- Plastic cups
- Baking sheet
- Aluminum foil
- Ribbon/string
- Glue Gun (adults only)
NOTE: Make sure you give the hot glue 10-20 minutes to dry before hanging.
STEP 1:
First, let your kids draw all over the outside of the cup. Use as many colors as you have and draw fruits and fun shapes.
STEP 2:
Color a few more so you’ve got plenty to share with friends and maybe one for home. Don’t forget to mix it up and make each one unique!
STEP 3:
Now, have an adult preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. While that’s warming up, line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place the cups on the baking sheet with a few inches separating them.
STEP 4 (FOR ADULTS ONLY):
Parents should slide the baking sheet with cups into the oven and bake it for 3-5 minutes or until the suncatchers are melted and flattened. Turn off the oven and remove the baking sheet from the oven. Now let your flattened suncatchers cool into hard disks.
STEP 5:
After you’ve let your suncatchers cool, hold them up to the sun and see how they capture the light!
STEP 6:
If you want to be able to hang your suncatchers, have an adult take a hot glue gun and attach a string or ribbon to one edge. Let each dry for about 10-20 minutes before you actually hang them.
STEP 7:
Once it’s dried, hang one up at home and have your kids hand the rest out to their friends!
