Earth Day Slime

Looking for a creative Earth Day project? Try this homemade Earth Day STEM project. This slime will wow your kids and get their young minds interested in the science behind everything around them.

Materials:

• 6 oz of clear “school glue”
• 1½ tablespoon of baking soda
• 1½ tablespoon contact lens solution
• Mixing bowl
• Spoon or other utensil for mixing
• Measuring spoons
• Blue and green glitter or food coloring
• Liquid watercolors are an acceptable alternative to glitter or food coloring

Step 1:

First, empty 6 oz of clear school glue into bowl.

Step 2:

Then add 1½ tablespoon of baking soda to the bowl.

Step 3:

After that, add 1½ tablespoon of contact lens solution.

Step 4:

Add as much glitter to your mixture as you’d like—the more glitter the better.

Step 5:

Start mixing everything together with a spoon until it solidifies, then knead it together with your hands until it’s recognizably slimy.

Step 6:

Once it’s taken shape, you and your kids can have ooey-gooey fun as you discuss the science behind your project and the environment. Don’t forget to keep your slime off furniture and store it in a plastic storage container.
