STEP 1:

Adults this is where you get to *shine.* This first step explains where to cut for the Firefly and later we’ll show you the Lantern. You’re going to cut two places from your Juicy Juice box, the front and top. Start by taking your Exacto Knife and carefully cutting a rectangular shape out of the front of an empty Juicy Juice box. Cut right below the “100% Juice” banner and work your way down, leaving a bit of the edges on the sides and bottom if possible. Then go ahead and cut off the top of the juice box, as seen in the photo.

STEP 2:

Next, grab the yellow, black and white pieces of construction paper. Cut the yellow sheet of construction paper in a rectangular shape so it fits snugly inside of the Juicy Juice Box. Now, we’re going to use the black construction paper to make a Firefly face and to cover the bottom and both sides of the box. For this you can just use the juice box as a ruler and cut out 3 strips just a little bit larger than the 2 sides and bottom of the box. Then, cut a circular shape out for the face! Lastly, let’s use the white construction paper to cut out some wings, a friendly smile for the Firefly’s face, and a circular button nose!

STEP 3:

Decorating time! This is where your little one will love to help! Let them place the googly eyes, nose and mouth where they want them on the Firefly face, then glue those pieces down. While they figure out placement, you can glue the black sheets of construction paper you cut out in the last step to the sides and bottom of the box and then the white construction paper wings to the back of the box. Cut the black pipe cleaner into six pieces to make four little legs, and two antennae for the head of the Firefly!

STEP 4:

Nearly there! Glue the arms and legs to either side of the box. Then curl the antennae at the ends and glue them to your Firefly’s head. Only one thing left to do! Glue the Firefly face to the top of the box and voila, you’re done!

STEP 5:

Here’s where we’ll craft the Lantern for your little one! Just like with the Firefly, you’re going to cut two sections from your second Juicy Juice box. Go ahead and cut off the top of the box first. Then carefully cut the sides and middle section out of the box, as seen in the photo.

STEP 6:

Grab your black, yellow and green sheets of construction paper. Cut the yellow sheet of construction paper in a rectangular shape so it fits snugly inside of the Juicy Juice Box. Then cut two strips from the green construction paper to fit over the front top and front bottom of the box. Place the yellow construction paper in the box then glue the green pieces onto the box. Next cut a small circle from the black construction paper to imitate a “lantern light switch.”

STEP 7:

It’s really coming together now! Glue your black construction paper lantern light switch to the front bottom of the box, over the green construction paper. Then bend your green pipe cleaner to look like a handle, and glue it to either side of the box.

STEP 8:

You’re done and wow, they look so cute! Turn your battery operated tealight candles on and pop them inside of the hole you made at the top of each box. Then let your little one take their magical Firefly and Lantern outside to see how beautiful they are!
