Watermelon Pencil Case

Help your kids stay organized as they return to the classroom with this creative pencil case inspired by the bold fruity flavors of Juicy Juice.

Supplies:

  • Felt (pink, green and black)
  • Kid-friendly scissors
  • Pencil
  • Thin ribbon
  • Button
  • Hot glue gun (to be used by adults only)
  • Ruler

NOTE: Whenever these steps call for hot glue to be applied, make sure you give the hot glue 10-20 minutes to dry before continuing on.

STEP 1:

First, measure and cut out a 10½ inch wide piece of green felt and pink felt. Make sure you trim any excess felt with scissors.

STEP 2:

Next, take your green felt and make a ½ inch fold along the shorter sides, securing it with hot glue. Do the same with your pink felt.

STEP 3:

Now, put the pink felt over the green, leaving about 2 inches of green felt to fold over. Hot glue this fold and trim off the excess green so that it lines up with the pink

STEP 4:

Then, flip the pencil case over, you should now have a flap of pink felt sticking up over your green felt. Take a 4inch long piece of ribbon and glue it to the underside of your pink flap, around 1 inch from the edge.

STEP 5:

Once you’ve glued your ribbon on, take it and fold the pink felt flap over the green. Use your finger or a pencil and make a note of where the ribbon lands and glue down a button with a dollop of hot glue.

STEP 6:

Make a loop out of your ribbon and glue a small piece of scrap felt over the bottom of your loop, this will help keep it in place.

STEP 7:

Finally, take your black felt piece and cut out small seed shapes, gluing them to your pink felt front of your pencil case.

Bonus step:

If you happen to have felt adhesive letters laying around, you can personalize the pencil case.
